The Gift of Prophecy: 7

Some believe that prophecy has ceased because everything has been completed:

1 Corinthians 13:8-10 – Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.

However, completeness will not come until Christ’s return. Christ is the fulfillment of all knowledge and prophecy, so at His return we won’t see in part, but we’ll see Him face-to-face. Right now you go to church and you get a piece of knowledge, or a piece of a prophecy, but when Christ returns we will see the full picture.

The author himself, in the very same chapter, tells us that completeness is a future event when we will see God face-to-face.

1 Cor. 13:12 – now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
